Round Robin Stories Volume Three

Hi all,

This week I’m going to tell you about a fun little anthology I participated in for Strong Women, Strange Worlds. It’s the third volume of Round Robin stories! This one was really fun to participate in as we each had to write a few paragraphs and then wait for another author to write the next part of the story. I worked on ‘The Wrong Sister’ with several other fabulous authors.

Every single one is a different story based on Fantasy, Sci-Fi and Horror genres and they’re all fantastic! I was only able to read The Wrong Sister while we were working on it and I’m so happy to be able to read the four other stories!

In the future I want to write more about them and I can’t wait to explore their world! To do that I’ve still got quite a bit of research to do on Norse mythology, but I’m sure that won’t take long.

There are plenty of amazing short stories by multiple authors in this anthology, perfect for those who love Norse mythology.

The wrong girl was resurrected… now she has to save humanity.

Recruiting new friends along the way, the duo must stop Anubis from spreading the plague and claiming Ra’s artifacts as his own. With two worlds on the line, Tahira needs to figure out how to keep both from falling apart.

False Comet is actually the first story I submitted to Iron Faerie. After I saw the prompt, I came up with an idea that I couldn’t shake! It follows three teenagers who are waiting for a meteor shower but instead witness a comet crash into the Earth. Upon further investiagtion, they wished they had they had just stayed at home instead…

I love seeing my work published in anthologies and I hope to continue submitting to them this year! I’ve already got my eye on a dragon one which I’m hoping to submit to by the end of the month.

As you can see, this anthology is chock full of stories from plenty of authors! There are hundreds of fantasy stories to make your way through. I’ve read quite a few of them already and I think they’re all amazing.

I wrote Flames of the Moon on a whim after a writing prompt from my writer’s group. I had a dream about a girl who was given fire magic from a moon goddess and rolled with it. Despite only being 500 words, I really loved writing it. So much in fact that I have ideas to turn it into a book. The moon goddess will still give out fire magic but there will be three other goddesses too. Once I’ve plotted the story out a bit more I’ll share a few more details with you.

Orange to Blue contains no spoilers for the Elemental Dragon series and is instead a fun little side story set during Blood and Water. It features Hazel, Aqueous, Marco and Draca as they try to help an Amphiptere Dragon who is going to be used as entertainment during the summer solstice. I originally wrote it for a different anthology but it didn’t make it through. I’m glad it has managed to find a home now though!

I’m hoping to get published in more anthologies throughout the year and maybe get some of my older short stories published. I still occasionally look up ones that I think I might be interested in.

Soar Through the Sky

Solar Child - Excerpt

Hi all!

This week I thought I’d share a small extract from Solar Child, the prequel novella to Years. This can only be downloaded when you sign up to my mailing list, it’s not available on Amazon. You can also download the Elemental Dragons Short Story Collection and Famished.

Nova and her friends can only gape as an orange lioness slowly drops to the forest floor. Her entire body is surrounded by flame, but the lioness inside doesn't show any signs of distress. The four of them step back as the lioness flexes her paws before landing softly on the grass. Nova expects to see the greenery around her erupt into a blaze of fire, but nothing happens. Although the flames lick the tender stems, there is no sign of harm to them either. 

What is this? 

Nova tries to open her mouth to speak but nothing comes out. She takes a step back as the smell of ash fills her nostrils and steps on a twig. 

Snap. 

The lioness' head swings towards them. All four of them gasp and push her forward. 

"What the hell-" 

"You pissed it off!" One of her friends, Alesha, snaps. 

"I stepped on a twig-" 

The lioness steps towards her and all four of them jump back in shock. Nova feels Alesha's hand slip into hers. They press their backs against the closest tree, ignoring the scratchy bark and the hair that gets caught in it. 

Every time the lioness moves a charred pawprint is left in the grass. But a second later the burned patch grows over with fresh grass that looked healthier than it did before. 

"Please, don't be afraid."

The lioness' voice is silky and warm. Her yellow eyes blink up at them gently and she dips her head. 

"It's an alien!" One of her other friends, Sofia, shrieks. 

"Why would an alien come here?" Her last friend, Robyn, hisses. 

The lioness cocks her head to one side, eyeing them all curiously. Nova stands up straighter and tries to control the nervous shake in her hands. 

"Who are you?" The words come out as barely a whisper. 

The lioness blinks at her kindly. "To be honest, I'm not sure. I have only just woken up from a deep slumber." 

Robyn nudges her back. "Ask it what it wants." 

"What I want, child," The lioness replies, making them all jump. "Is to find out what is going on with this formerly beautiful planet. It was a lush paradise when I left it. Now..." She looks around, her nose wrinkling. "It smells strange. Of something I can't identify." 

Nova swallows back her fear. "I'm sorry, but I don't know what you're talking about. The planet has been the same from before we were born." 

The lioness peers at her carefully. "You have known no different? From this?" 

She shrugs. "It's not that bad. Is it?" 

The lioness opens her mouth to reply when the sounds of sirens fill the forest. Nova and her friends all huddle together.

Hawthorn and Ash Book 3: Alder & Ebony

One of my writing/publishing goals last year was to write more short stories and submit them to anthologies. One of the anthologies that accepted one of my stories has been published! You can check out Alder & Ebony below:

My story for this anthology is called Reclaim. It features the cat goddess Bastet, in her cat form, taking something back that was stolen from her. The piece was originally written for a contest that it unfortunately didn’t place in, but now you can read it in this anthology! The story doesn’t contain spoilers for the Curse of Anubis series and only features Bastet. You can get an idea of her character and her behaviour from this story, however.

The publisher is Iron Faerie Publishing and they have plenty of other submission calls on their website for various anthologies. My favourites are the fantasy and horror ones! You can check out their website and published anthologies here: Iron Faerie Publishing. I’ve submitted to one of their other anthologies and would also like to contribute to more of their anthologies in the future. They have great prompts and themes which are different to ones that you usually see for submission calls. Their Nephilim anthology is the one I originally submitted to as the theme was something I’d never come across before.
